What Is MASA?
MASA Israel Journey is a joint project of the Government of Israel and the Jewish Agency for Israel that enables thousands of Jewish young adults, ages 18 to 30, to spend a semester or a year in Israel in any of over 160 programs, helping them build a life-long relationship with Israel and a firm commitment to Jewish life. MASA connects young adults to programs that meet their needs and interests, grants and scholarships towards program fees, and support, activities, workshops and resources while they are Israel. Cost After MASA Grant: $2,700*
Career Israel is a five-month professional internship program open to college/university graduates from all over the world. The program provides internship placements in leading companies and organizations in the private and public sectors in Israel in every field. The program also includes several internship opportunities in the “green” sector, including: Israel’s NGOs, Fair Trade NPOs, Environmental Law, Solar Energy, and environmental policy research and consulting. *Additional needs-based scholarships available.

Eco-Israel offers young adults an opportunity to develop a deep, personal, land-based relationship with the land of Israel, its diverse cultures, and inspiring landscapes. Participants in Eco-Israel spend five months living on the Hava & Adam ecological farm and education center, located near the city of Modi’in in central Israel. There, they create a dynamic self-reliant community alongside Israeli volunteers, developing a strong connection with the diversity of Israeli landscapes, both human and natural. *Additional needs-based scholarships available.

The Green Apprenticeship at Kibbutz Lotan combines both theory and practice as participants learn about local food production through organic gardening, ecological and community design, alternative and natural building, sustainable and energy-saving technologies, and environmental ethics. Participants work in Lotan’s organic garden, on natural building projects, and on the care and development of their own unique neighborhood on Lotan’s eco-campus. *additional needs-based funding available for all programs.

Kibbutz Ulpan is a five-month work/study program. Participants learn conversational Hebrew, work on the kibbutz in agricultural and industry jobs, and take part in rich and unique kibbutz culture. Spending time on a kibbutz is a time-honored tradition that countless people have experienced over the years. Kibbutz Ulpan is a perfect choice for anyone looking to take a gap-year before college, or for any young adult looking to take time off from employment or college and do something different while learning Hebrew and seeing Israel. *Additional needs-based scholarships available.

Tel Aviv Internship Experience is a personalized internship program offering participants the opportunity to gain valuable work experience in the public or private sector of Israel's most vibrant city, Tel Aviv. By providing customized placements, Oranim is able to offer meaningful internships in leading environmental and 'green' companies. Past placements have included environmental non-profit organizations and humanitarian NGOs. Intern accommodations are minutes from the beach in fully furnished, beautiful studio or one bedroom apartments, two participants per room. *Additional needs-based funding available.

WUJS Intern Tel-Aviv is a program that gives participants the opportunity to combine a professional internship in the green sector with the additional benefits of a regular Ulpan (Hebrew language) course, weekly field trips, overnight hikes, meetings with Israeli peers and a variety of fun and enriching activities. The program also allows participants to experience Judaism in a pluralist form, exploring the options, feeling the fervor, learning and encountering Judaism as never before. *Additional needs-based funding available for all programs.

The Year/Semester Program at the Arava Institute is an accredited program for undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in Environmental Studies or related fields. The program provides students with scientific and technical literacy, public policy fundamentals, and comprehension of philosophical concepts necessary to engage actively and effectively in environmental challenges and objectives. During the program, students live, study and work with Israelis, Palestinians, Jordanians and other internationals to gain first-hand experience thinking and working in a trans-boundary environment, while developing communication and leadership skills needed for cross-cultural cooperation. *Additional needs-based funding available for all programs.

An innovative partnership between the Arava Institute and the Jacob Blaustein Institute for Desert Research at Ben-Gurion University, this program offers college graduates a unique opportunity to study at two leading environmental institutions. Upon completion of the program students receive a Masters in Desert Studies with a concentration in Environmental Studies awarded by Ben-Gurion University. During their year at AIES, students are integrated in a unique learning environment with a focus on regional Middle Eastern environmental challenges. In addition to pursuing their research interests and taking courses taught by AIES faculty, Masters students participate in peace-building and leadership activities that are a cornerstone of the educational process at the Arava Institute. *Additional needs-based funding available for all programs.

BGU’s Sustainable Development Track presents a holistic and comprehensive viewpoint on the Negev Desert, through the combination of past, present and future perspectives. Touching on ecological, economic, social, cultural, demographic and political aspects of this minimally developed desert region, it offers students the opportunity to experience first hand the challenges of sustainable development while being guided by top professors and researchers in the field. *Additional needs-based funding available.

One Year/Semester Program (OYP) students benefit from a diversified academic experience while earning credits that may be transferred to their home college or university. In addition to intensive Hebrew language study and a selection of classes in a range of other fields, students can take a variety of environmental studies courses, including (but not limited to): The Water Crisis in Israel: Environmental and Geopolitical Concerns; The Environment and the Origins of Life: An Introduction to Astrobiology; Judaism and the Environment, and more. *Additional needs-based funding available.

Explore the connections between new forms of ecological identity and stewardship, social justice and community in Israel while working alongside Palestinian-Arab, Bedouin and Jewish Israelis striving for a just and lasting peace. Gain hands-on experience in ecological design, green building and sustainable agriculture. Using a holistic approach to world issues that encompasses inner, cultural, and outer processes, participants on this University of Massachusetts-accredited program broaden and deepen their understanding of sustainability and ecology and build a growing theoretical understanding of issues relating to global sustainability. *Additional needs-based funding available.

Volunteering on a kibbutz is a tradition that thousands of adventurers from all over the world have undertaken for more than 75 years. iTrack is a personalized 5-10 month Israel that allows each participant to build a program that suits his or her specific needs and desires. Every participant, together with the iTrack staff, builds a tailor-made program that matches the experience that he or she wants to have while in Israel. Once on kibbutz, volunteers work in the environmental or “green” sector in exchange for room and board and a small amount of pocket money. There is generally great camaraderie amongst the volunteers, who hail from all over the world. *Additional needs-based funding available for all programs.

Livnot is the premiere Israel experience for young Jewish adults aged 21-30 with little or no background in Judaism. Along with a practical hands-on experience in organic and sustainable agriculture at Kibbutz Sde Eliyahu, the program offers a soul-searching, physically-invigorating, and emotionally-elevating experience in Israel. Participants learn, hike, volunteer, live and explore Judaism and themselves over a period of five months. *Additional needs-based funding available for all programs.
